This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which cookies are used on gantt-chart.co.uk, and how you can manage them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle personal data more broadly.

If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at info@gantt-chart.co.uk.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, to improve performance, to understand how visitors use a site, and to deliver advertising.

“Similar technologies” include local storage, web beacons, pixels, and device identifiers. Where this policy refers to cookies, it includes these technologies as well.

2. How cookies are used on this site

The site uses cookies for three purposes: to deliver the site itself, to understand how the site is used, and to support advertising. We do not use cookies for marketing newsletters, user accounts, or any form of tracking outside the categories listed in this policy.

We do not set our own first-party advertising or tracking cookies. The cookies set on this site fall into the following categories.

Essential cookies

A small number of strictly necessary cookies may be set by our hosting infrastructure to keep the site operational — for example, to manage server load-balancing or to maintain basic functionality. These cookies do not track you across other websites and are not used for advertising.

Analytics cookies (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics to understand how readers use the site: which pages are read, how long people spend on them, where traffic comes from, and how the site performs. Google Analytics sets the following cookies on your device:

  • _ga — used to distinguish unique users, typically expires after two years
  • _ga_<container-id> — used by Google Analytics 4 to persist session state, typically expires after two years
  • Additional _ga_-prefixed cookies depending on configuration

These cookies collect data about your device, pages viewed, session duration, and referrer. We have configured Google Analytics to use IP anonymisation where available.

The legal basis for analytics cookies is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used and improving it. If you object to this processing, you can opt out using the methods in section 4.

Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)

The site carries advertising served by Google AdSense. This is how we fund our editorial work. AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to deliver ads, measure ad performance, and, where you have given consent, personalise the ads you see based on your interests.

Google AdSense and its advertising partners may set a range of cookies on your device, including but not limited to:

  • __gads and __gpi — used by Google for ad delivery and frequency capping
  • NID, IDE, DSID — used by Google for ad personalisation and measurement (where consent is given)
  • Cookies set by Google’s advertising partners in the AdSense network, which may vary based on the ads served

Because AdSense serves advertising from a wide network of partners, the exact set of cookies may change. A current list of Google ad technologies and partners is maintained at policies.google.com/technologies/ads and policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

The legal basis for advertising cookies is your consent, which is collected and managed by Google’s consent management system as described in section 3.

Consent for advertising cookies on this site is collected and managed by Google’s consent management mechanism, integrated with Google AdSense. When you visit the site from a region where consent is required (including the UK, the EU, and other regions covered by Google’s consent framework), Google will present you with a consent choice before setting non-essential advertising cookies.

You can change your consent choice at any time. The exact mechanism depends on your region, but options typically include:

  • Revisiting the consent prompt through your browser settings or the site’s footer
  • Visiting your Google Ad Settings at adssettings.google.com to control ad personalisation across Google’s services
  • Using Google’s consent management tools at privacy.google.com

4. How to control cookies yourself

Independently of any consent mechanism, you have several ways to control cookies on your device.

Browser settings. All major browsers allow you to view, block, or delete cookies. Instructions for the most common browsers:

  • Google Chrome: support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
  • Mozilla Firefox: support.mozilla.org/kb/clear-cookies-and-site-data-firefox
  • Microsoft Edge: support.microsoft.com/microsoft-edge
  • Safari (macOS/iOS): support.apple.com/en-gb/safari

Blocking or deleting cookies may affect site functionality or your ability to opt out of certain cookies (some opt-outs work by setting a cookie themselves).

Opt out of Google Analytics specifically. Google provides a browser add-on that prevents Google Analytics data collection, available at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Opt out of personalised advertising. You can opt out of Google’s personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com. You can also opt out of participating advertisers using the Digital Advertising Alliance’s WebChoices tool at youradchoices.com (US) or the European Digital Advertising Alliance’s tool at youronlinechoices.eu.

Do Not Track. Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no consistent industry standard for honouring this signal. Google AdSense and Google Analytics do not currently respond to Do Not Track signals; we rely on Google’s consent mechanism and the opt-outs described above.

5. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies used on the site, changes to Google’s advertising and analytics products, or changes in law. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect any changes.
